Qatar Airways delinks Maputo from Johannesburg flights

QATAR AIRWAYS GIVES MOZAMBIQUE’S CAPITAL MAPUTO NONSTOP TURNAROUND FLIGHTS

(Posted 02nd February 2016)

Qatar Airways’ focus remains firmly set on Africa as the latest news from Doha suggest. Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, so far served in combination with Johannesburg, will effective 27th of March get a nonstop turnaround flight, operated by Boeing B787 Dreamliner equipment. The combination service to both Maputo and Johannesburg were first launched in 2012.

The flights will leave from Doha every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 06.30hrs, arriving in Maputo at 13.40hrs before returning to Doha at 15.05hrs with a landing shortly after midnight on Wednesday, Friday and Monday at 00.10hrs. The departure times from Doha will allow maximum connectivity to Mozambique for passengers from across the airline’s global network.

The aircraft in the familiar C/Y configuration offers 22 seats in the airline’s award winning business class and 232 seats in the equally award winning economy class.

Qatar Airways Group CEO Mr. Akbar Al Baker, when making the announcement earlier today, had this to say: ‘Three years ago, Qatar Airways began flights to Maputo via Johannesburg, and over that time we have seen a consistent increase in demand resulting in today’s announcement, making our Maputo-Doha flights non-stop. We are very pleased that we will now be able to provide leisure and business passengers shorter, more convenient flights when travelling between Doha and Maputo’.

Mozambique is a destination of interest for both travelers on business but increasingly also on leisure, as a number of high end beach and island resorts have sprung up in recent years, offering pristine beaches, crystal clear water and for now an almost complete lack of crowds.

Elsewhere in Eastern Africa does Qatar Airways serve Entebbe, Kigali, Nairobi, Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar, using Airbus A320 aircraft for all these routes.
