The Seychelles welcomes first Qatar Airways flight with a traditional water cannon salute.

OneWorld alliance member Qatar Airways has resumed services to the paradise islands of Seychelles, as of today again operating an Airbus A320 in their award winning two class configuration. The inaugural flight was greeted at the entrance of the apron by the traditional water cannon shower and the Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine, Mr. Alain St. Ange and key members of his team, the tourism private sector and other government officials were at hand to receive the Airbus. Qatar Airways Chief Commercial Officer, Dr. Hugh Dunleavy led a high-profile delegation on the inaugural direct flight from the airline’s hub airport Hamad International in Doha.
Said Minister St. Ange: ‘We are happy to have Qatar Airways, the world’s five-star airline, fly to Seychelles. The array of scattered islands with their lush green natural landscapes, white sandy beaches, and turquoise blue sea promise visitors the adventure of a lifetime. The new services will add important value to the thriving tourism industry with huge potential to boost traffic from Europe and further expand the emerging Middle East and East Asia’s travelling markets amongst others. Qatar Airways, which is an award-winning airline, will give more choices to passengers travelling to and from our beautiful islands in terms of service, airfares, transfer airport experience as well as routes‘.

Qatar Airways exited the Seychelles some years ago but demand galore brought the five star airline back to the archipelago to feed traffic from across its global network to the main island’s international airport in Mahe.
Seychelles’ tourism private sector warmly welcomed the additional flight and the added seats bringing more holiday makers to the islands.
For 2016 has the Seychelles already on the first day in December established a new visitor record when the 2015 full year figure was exceeded, giving a full month to reach the magical figure of 300.000 tourists a year.
