AIR ZIMBABWE’S LAST OPERATIONAL AIRCRAFT IMPOUNDED IN SOUTH AFRICA OVER ACCUMULATED DEBTS

Accumulated debts from landing fees, parking fees and other related charges led to the Airport Company of South Africa impounding the last operational aircraft of Air Zimbabwe, a Boeing B767.
As a result were all subsequent flights yesterday cancelled and passengers booked for flights today and tomorrow advised to check with the airline if those services would in fact operate.
Air Zimbabwe has confirmed the seizure of the aircraft and a spokesperson said that the airline is working with the government to remedy the situation.
Air Zimbabwe was due to also receive two Boeing B777, formerly destined for Zimbabwe Airways, but those aircraft have yet to be delivered to Harare.
This development leaves travelers with very limited travel choices for the routes operated by Air Zimbabwe though a source close to Fastjet assured ATCNews that the airline was ready for additional passenger traffic on their routes from Harare to Bulawayo, Harare to Victoria Falls and Harare to Johannesburg.
For Air Zimbabwe however is once again the future in doubt, with no aircraft and a further loss of market confidence after this latest forced halt in operations.
