ONE OF NAIROBI’S BEST HOTELS DECIDES TO SHUT DOWN FOR THE TIME BEING DUE TO LACK OF BUSINESS

Citing low business as a result of the ongoing COVID19 pandemic has the original Radisson Blu Upper Hill Nairobi decided to, for the time being, close the hotel to minimise losses.
“To mitigate some of the economic impact of the pandemic, coupled with the uncertainty of Radisson Blu Hotel Nairobi Upper Hill’s reopening date, we have had to make the difficult decision to reduce the size of our workforce at the hotel,” said a spokesperson before adding: “We understand this is an extremely difficult time for those affected and we will provide support to them throughout the process.”
Pre-pandemic was the Radisson Blu Upper Hill one of Nairobi’s most successful hotels, capturing a significant portion of Kenya’s MICE business while at the same time also enjoying a superb reputation for F&B services across its restaurants.
Be it at their well reputed a la carte restaurant The Chophouse – generally considered as Nairobi’s best steak house – at The Larder for all day dining or their top floor Business Lounge, food was highly rated and service attentive and friendly.
But, like with many other hospitality business not just in Kenya, but also across the region, the continent and the rest of the world have lockdowns and hesitant travelers brought occupancies from the high 80’s down to the low 20’s and below, forcing hotel owners and operators to consider hard options in order to survive the fallout caused by the raging pandemic.
Meanwhile has it also been confirmed that sister hotel Radisson Nairobi Arboretum and the Park Inn by Radisson Blu Nairobi Westlands continue to operate, giving corporate clients of Radisson Hotels at least an option to stay with their preferred hotel group when visiting the Kenyan capital.
