In the coming years, Radisson plans to create close to 40,000 new rooms in 192 hotels worldwide.
Over 1,200 hotels in 115 countries already belong to Radisson Hotel Group (RHG), but in the next few years, 192 properties and close to 40,000 rooms will be added.
We take a closer look at where RHG plans to open its popular hotels.
Strong growth in emerging regions
Of the 192 new hotels, 44 are to be launched in Africa and 46 in Asia-Pacific. Both markets have experienced solid growth and stability in recent years and are therefore an attractive destination for Radisson.
Europe will also receive 41 new hotels with a total of 7,076 rooms, while 40 new hotels will bring over 10,000 rooms to the Middle East.
North and South America have a slightly smaller pipeline of 17 and 4 projects respectively.
Countries with strong potential
Radisson’s biggest push will happen in India and Saudi Arabia with each country receiving 18 new hotels. It’s worth noting, that projects in Saudi Arabia average almost twice as many rooms as in India. Of the 18 new hotels in the Saudi Kingdom, 7 are to open in the capital Riyadh and 4 in Jeddah.
As with many other international hotel chains, China continues to be an important growth market for Radisson. RHG’s strong pipeline of 12 new projects surely coincides with Jin Jiang’s purchase of Radisson in 2018.
The US is also one of the group’s fastest growing countries with 10 new hotels. Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Georgia follow with 7 each. Nigeria, Turkey and Angola close out the top ten countries in terms of growth with 6 new Radisson properties each.
Timeframes and construction phases for Radisson hotel projects
In 2019, 26 projects will be completed, and Radisson will create just under 5,000 new rooms. 2020 will be the most eventful year with 72 new openings and close to 13,000 rooms.
41 new hotels are anticipated for 2021 and 19 are expected to open their doors in 2022. From 2023, there are still 34 projects with 8,000 rooms in the pipeline.
Currently, 17 hotels are in the pre-opening phase and 100 hotels are under construction. 59 properties are being planned while 16 are still in the pre-planning phase.
Radisson in the DACH region
Only 6 of the 41 Radisson hotels planned for Europe will open in the DACH region. Three properties will open in Germany, 2 in Switzerland and one in Austria.
Overall, these hotels will add 1,384 new rooms to the area.
