CULTURE AND CONSERVATION – A UNIQUE RWANDAN COMBINATION TO ATTRACT MORE TOURISTS

Greg Bakunzi, the owner of Red Rocks and organizer of the annual Cultural Tourism Week in Musanze, announced earlier today that the dates for the 04th edition have been set for 02nd to 09th of September. The highlight of the week’s programme will once again be the ‘Crazy Night of the Gorillas‘ party, held on the evening of the annual gorilla naming ceremony which is organized by the Rwanda Development Board. Scores of additional visitors from the local, regional and global conservation fraternity come every year to Rwanda to celebrate the country’s achievements over the past two decades.
The Cultural Tourism Week will show those visitors how the famous baskets of Rwanda are weaved, exhibit art pieces, teach how to make Banana beer, how local foods are cooked and presented, show the use of local instruments and offer musical and other performances to explain the cultural customs of the land of a thousand hills as Rwanda is fondly known among her friends. Daily programme content will be published here when available.
Meanwhile though has Kwita Izina over the past few years emerged as a major regional conservation event with wildlife, forestry and conservation workshops, seminars and arts exhibitions held in the run up week in Kigali and across the country.
Those keen to explore the ancient Royal sites near Musanze, go underground to check out the Musanze caves, visit the twin lakes of Bulera and Ruhondo or track either the Golden Monkeys or the famous Mountain Gorillas, they will have a week long programme lined up for them right in the centre of the action.
Day excursions to Lake Kivu too are possible with public transport running on a regular basis between Musanze and Gisenyi.
Intending visitors are reminded that Musanze and the hotels across the town’s environs are normally fully booked for the Kwita Izina weekend and early reservations, and payment to secure space, are highly recommended.
