REUNION TOURISM APPOINTS MORE ‘AMBASSADORS’ TO HELP PROMOTING THE ISLAND

Last Friday saw the introduction of a further 9 ‘Tourism Ambassadors’ who joined the elite group of 31 others already ‘appointed’ since the scheme was launched in 2011.
The island’s tourism marketing body IRT is keen to see the island’s leading personalities from sports, culture and the show biz to come on board and help them promote and popularize visits to this French Indian Ocean island on mainland France and beyond.
A media release received from IRT speaks of: ‘… these figures have been or are elite athletes who thrilled the audience with their performances. They are journalists and leaders of local television and national. These are singers who by their voices reflect the heat of the Reunion population. These are models that help to enhance the reputation of La Réunion in conveying its miscegenation, its history, describing its picturesque landscapes, and speaking with love of the island’.
The latest additions to this honour list were named as:
- Kakouk
- Stéphanie Thazar
Revelation Reunion music scene in 2010, winner of SACEM "Best Hope";
- Sébastien Coupy
First man to make the crossing kite surfing between Mauritius and Reunion Island in 2010. Three times champion Reunion paragliding. Top athlete in France paragliding Group in 2008 and 2009. Winner of the pre-world cup paragliding Reunion in October 2013. Qualification at the end of e world cup paragliding 2013;
- Philippe Nativel
Champion Brazilian jiu-jitsu. 7 titles at the 2005 European Championships, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2013. A title of International Master and Senior Rio Jiu-Jitsu in 2009;
- Mohamed Samsoudine
- Alexis Wenceslas Sztrakoniczky

Songwriter and performer, she was named "Golden Voice" Reunion in 2008;
