Reunion does it again … Marketing at its best …

SMART MARKETING PLOYS GET GERMAN TRAVELLERS’ ATTENTION

(Posted 13th August 2014)

Reunion’s tourism board has once again managed to create waves and generate headlines with a smart marketing ploy, when they launched a subtle campaign for the destination at Munich airport.

A total of 6 ‘trays’ are circling on the baggage delivery bands, showing a bottle with a message inserted into sand from one of Reunion’s sparkling beaches, complemented with shells and flowers: ‘I found Paradise – And it is waiting for you too’.

Reunion has been targeting the German market of late with vigour to attract more tourists fly out to the French Indian Ocean island which, often unbeknown to potential visitors, holds a wide range of attractions way beyond a mere beach holiday. Canyoning, abseiling, white water rafting, paragliding, deep sea fishing, whale and dolphin watching and hiking across hundreds of kilometres of prepared trails across the rugged interior of the island offer plenty of options for an active holiday, something many German tourists seek out.

MUC is Germany’s second largest airport and a year ago over 3.5 million passengers were handled there, giving Reunion Tourism maximum ‘mileage’ for their one off campaign. The present marketing play follows hot on the heels of another hugely successful campaign, the ‘Message in the Bottle’ which caught the attention of Germans in both Munich and Frankfurt last month.
