Reunion goes to Cannes to showcase the island ahead of the annual film festival

REUNION USES RUN UP TO CANNES FILM FESTIVAL TO INCREASE VISIBILITY IN FRANCE

(Posted 23rd May 2014)

Reunion Tourism is using the run-up to the annual Cannes Film Festival to promote the island’s tourism attractions in France, strategically located ‘on location’ – the beach of Gray d’Albion.

The French mainland remains Reunion’s single most important tourist source market though the island has over the past 4 years made strong headways in attracting more tourists from other countries, with South African arrivals jumping by a third over the past year since a Visa Waiver came into effect. Since last Wednesday has Reunion Tourism rolled out the red carpet for film producers and the global film industry now slowly arriving in Cannes for one of the movie world’s most important global events, showcasing the island as a dramatic backdrop for ‘on location shooting’, catching the eyes of producers and directors alike.

An added focus of the promotion is to use the presence of TV crews to be seen and to bring Reunion into the view of millions of viewers, showcasing the island’s rich Creole and French heritage, the beaches and the rugged interior.

Mid week did IRT also hold an evening for travel agents, tour operators, the business community and the media from the PACA region, truly pulling out all the stops in their efforts to promote travel to the island. Reunion is a member of the Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands. For more details visit www.reunion.fr
