Reunion Tourism declares winners of student photo competition

REUNION’ STUDENTS PHOTOGRAPH THEIR ISLAND’S TOURISM ATTRACTIONS

(Posted 26th June 2014)

From September last year until May this year were pupils from eleven participating schools across Reunion taking pictures to portray and showcase their island as seen through their eyes and camera lenses. Focus of the competition was to demonstrate how relevant tourism was on the island for jobs and how high school students understood and interpreted their own ideas and matched them with pictures.

Over 60 of the pictures submitted came in to the final selection after meeting the criteria set by the organizers of the photo competition:

· the artistic quality of the image,

· originality of shooting,

· matching the theme of the competition,

· the emotion created by the photograph

· the authenticity of the image produced.

Each participating institution had to select three visuals to convey to the jury, which has designated three winners at the end of the deliberations:

The 1st prize was awarded to the High School Pierre Poivre in St. Joseph, the second prize to the Louis Payen School in St. Paul and the 3rd prize went to the Evariste Parny High School also in St. Paul.

The individual winners were Stephanie Marie Morel and Louis Pierre Poivre who won a helicopter tour across the island, with first runner up being Marie and Wendy Panechou Bominthe from the Lycée Louis Payen, who won a leisure activity choice for two people. Second runner up were Alix and Emma Louise Drouin Riquel from the High School Evariste Parny who won a guided tour of their choice.

It is clearly more and more about tourism on the Ile de la Reunion, where the sector is progressively becoming one of the main pillars of the economy. For more information about the island visit www.reunion.fr
