Didier Robert, the Reunion Island Regional President met Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles former Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine and together they reviewed the Region’s Vanilla Islands progress among other matters of interest. Both Alain St.Ange and Didier Robert were founding Presidents of the Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands and their meetings this week gave them the opportunity to assess the successes and also the challenges of tourism in the region.
St.Ange is today heading the "Saint Ange Tourism Consultancy" and produces the weekly "Saint Ange Tourism Report" covering Seychelles and regional news as well as tourism trends and developments.
Alain St.Ange was the first President of the Vanilla Islands and at the end of his term the Ministerial Council of the Vanilla Islands used their Madagascar Meeting to extend the St.Ange mandate to a second term. Alain St.Ange was then replaced by Didier Robert of Reunion at the end of his second term.
The set focus for the Region was to grow tourism with special emphasis of cruise tourism. Today the two former Presidents of the Regional Organisation said they recognised the work done by Pascal Viroleau, the CEO of the Organisation for not only increasing the rotations of cruise ships working in the Indian Ocean. Both President Didier Robert and Alain St.Ange said they were happy to have been part of the creation of the Vanilla Islands as a new tourism region. The meetings in Reunion took place at Boucan Canot and at St. Denis.
