Reunion’s Makassar Festival is taking place this weekend at the Palm Hotel & Spa, offering hotel guests and locals the opportunity to sample wine and great food brought to the island by renowned French chefs.

Big names in French cuisine and renowned winemakers from mainland France’s major wine regions will feature this year as will South Africa at the Makassar Festival.
The eighth edition of this Festival of Gastronomy and Wine will offer local and visiting connoisseurs a program of high quality.
The Palm Hotel’s restaurants will be the playground of Chef Claude Pothin and his team, offering experimental tastes of creativity using local organic ingredients and Creole touches to produce refined dishes.
This year, the Makassar invites to share the passion for food and wine. Chefs of French cuisine and renowned winemakers were invited by the head chef of the Palm Hotel & Spa, namely Mr. Claude Pothin, pastry chef Laure Fridmann and sommelier Sébastien Chabbert:

  • Alexander Bourdas , chef Sa.Qua.Na two Michelin stars;
  • Jacques Genin , pastry chef and chocolatier, owner of the chocolate factory of the same name in Paris;
  • Nicolas Billecart for Champagne Billecart-Salmon;
  • Mr. Béraut for the Domain Pellehaut (wines Côtes de Gascogne) and Castle Pellehaut (Armagnac);
  • David Quillin for Tain L’Hermitage cellars (Rhone Valley);
  • Evan Alexander for Boekenhoutskloof (organic farming property in Franschhoek, South Africa);
  • Reyneke (in organic farming property in Stellenbosch in South Africa).

These talented chefs and sponsors of this year’s Festival Makassar will present new gastronomic menus with dishes which will be enhanced by specially selected wines from the guest winemakers.
The Makassar Festival is also a trade show exhibition that reveals a selection of the best local products from Reunion and present the wine growers to guests but also offer Cooking Live Shows moderated by the invited chefs and wine makers.
For the eighth consecutive year, the Palm Hotel & Spa wants to promote the high arts of the cuisine around this food festival and bring to the island of Reunion refined tastes.
With quality local products such as vanilla, the Bourbon spiked coffee, the local turmeric spice or the Victoria pineapple, the Makassar Festival this weekend is a destination for foodies and surely to be enjoyed without moderation!
