#Reunion’s Piton de la Fournaise erupts for the first time this year

VOLCANIC ERUPTION ON REUNION ISLAND PROVIDES SPECTACULAR SIGHTS

The volcano Piton de la Fournaise on the Indian Ocean island of Reunion, just keeps waking up and erupted for the first time in the year 2019, at 9:48 in Monday, February 18, 2019.

Since the Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 3:21 pm local time, major seismic crises were recorded on the instruments of the Volcanological Observatory of Piton de la Fournaise which envisaged an imminent eruption.

According to the information provided by the volcanological observatory, the eruptive fissure (s) opened in the crater area Dolomieu, north-northeast sector at a high altitude for the moment.

The Prefect of Reunion decided to implement the alert phase 2-2 "eruption in progress in the enclosure" of the specific device ORSEC * volcano this Monday, February 18 at 10:15 in the morning, local time.

Public access to the Fouqué enclosure, from the Pas de Bellecombe trail or from any other trail, as well as from aircraft in the volcano area, are prohibited until further notice.
