The late Johan Genade, husband to Angie Genade, the Executive Director of the Rhino Fund Uganda and of the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, is one of two outstanding individuals after whom Kori’s fourth baby rhino was named earlier in the week.
Kori is one of the initial female adult rhinos brought to the sanctuary when the breeding programme was started, aimed to eventually re-populate Uganda’s rhino range national parks like Kidepo and Murchisons.
The other outstanding individual after whom the newborn rhino baby was named is the late Moses Mapesa, former Uganda Wildlife Authority Executive Director and notably also a former Director on the Board of Trustees of the Rhino Fund, when this correspondent served as Chairman.
Both men were closely involved in making Ziwa the conservation success it is today, defying doomsayers and negativity while working steadfast towards achieving both breeding success and ensuring the safety of the rhinos, now numbering 15 overall.
It is understood that both the other female adults are also in the family way again and are expected to give birth over the next couple of months.
