A new routing, just announced by Coastal Aviation, will make visits from June next year to Ruaha, one of the less explored wilderness areas in central Tanzania, more accessible for tourists.
A nine seater Pilatus PC 12 aircraft will be used to operate a round trip which starts from the Arusha Municipal Field at 08.15 hrs in the morning and first stops at what Coastal Aviation elegantly calls ‘Migration Capital‘.
The phrase was born describing where the annual 1.5 million strong migration of predominantly wildebeest and zebras is found at certain times of the year and the airstrip served therefore varies over the months, as the migration progresses through its annual cycle.
Migration Capital‘ for June will be the Grumeti airstrip before shifting to Kogatende airstrip from 01st of July to 30th of November after which the Ndutu airstrip will become the centre of things from 01st of December until the 15th of March. These flights will then take a break from 16th of March until the 31st of May before resuming again after the main rainy season.
From the Serengeti’s ‘Migration Capital‘ does the flight then continue to the main airfield in the park, Seronera before taking off at 10.00 hrs for Ruaha with an eta at 11.30 hrs.
Connections are available in Ruaha for the Selous while this round trip service then continues to Zanzibar with an eta at 13.00 hrs.
The round robin service then routes via Dar es Salaam on to Arusha, due to land at 17.40 hrs.
This combination does permit tourists to explore the Serengeti, Ruaha, the Selous if so wanted as well as the Spice Island of Zanzibar, the best there is on a combined safari / beach vacation.
