Rwanda and Germany put pen to paper for new aviation deal

RWANDA SIGNS NEW BASA WITH GERMANY

(Posted 25th September 2014)

The Rwandan government has yesterday signed a new bilateral air services agreement with the Federal Republic of Germany after successfully completing negotiations on mutual access by airlines from each country to the other.

While presently there are no direct flights between the two countries, all flights have to use intermediate hubs to connect to Rwanda or Germany, has RwandAir last week handed over a new strategic plan to the government in which flights to Europe are envisaged by around 2017/18.

Though no firm commitment has been made or an intention been formally announced at this time, is Frankfurt one of Europe’s leading airports and with connections from all over the EU and beyond an ideal point for long haul flights between Rwanda and Germany.

RwandAir is planning to acquire at least two wide bodied aircraft which can on delivery then allow to look at long haul flights in addition to boosting their regional fleet in order to allow for the ongoing expansion in destinations across Africa.
