GENERAL AVIATION FLIGHTS ARE NOW POSSIBLE AGAIN IN RWANDA

The Rwanda Airport Company has published details for users of general aviation flights into and out of Kigali International Airport.
Effective yesterday was the international airport opened again for use by general aviation services, i.e. light aircraft, helicopter and private jet flights – though not as yet for scheduled passenger services.
Information is awaited from Rwanda when mainstream passenger services will reopen at the airport and it is anticipated that similar measures like outlined in the RAC letter will then apply.
The Rwanda Development Board’s Tourism Division has also confirmed information about the reopening of the primate national park and what regulations will apply for visitors to Volcanoes National Park and Nyungwe Forest National Park.
Notably have the permit fees been reduced from 1.500 US Dollars to much less, clearly aimed to stimulate demand which at the outbreak of the pandemic dropped to zero and prompted the closure of the parks.
Promotional offers are available until 31 December 2020 in Rwanda’s National Parks:
- Gorilla permits are now available for USD 200 for Rwandans & East African Community (EAC; Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda) nationals residing in Rwanda, and USD 500 for foreign residents.
Specific precautionary measures are as follows:
- Domestic tourists visiting Nyungwe National Park and Volcanoes National Park are required to test negative for COVID-19 within 48 hours prior to visiting these attractions. A private test center has been set up at Petit Stade, Amahoro National Stadium in Kigali, by appointment only. Other test centers outside Kigali will be communicated as demand grows.
- All visitors travelling by charter flights are expected to test negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours prior to arrival. Tourists will take a second COVID-19 test prior to visiting any tourist attraction.
