VOLCANOES, NYUNGWE AND GISHWATI CLOSE OVER #COVID19 CONCERNS

Rwanda has overnight announced that their three primate national parks of Volcanoes, Gishwati and Nyungwe will be closed effective today, Saturday, 21st of March.
Akagera National Park in contrast will remain open for visitors but sources close to the park suggested to ATCNews that entries will most likely be minimal as the country and her citizens now have not only other priorities but have also been told to stay at home and avoid unnecessary travel.
This will be a blow to conservation and research as entrance fees earned from visits to the mountain gorillas have been a major source of income for RDB’s tourism and conservation department.
The Uganda Wildlife Authority is said to be monitoring the situation but is expected to react in a similar fashion over the coming days, to a good part as here too unnecessary travels have all been actively discouraged by the government and no foreign tourists are arriving any longer, nor remaining in country to visit the two national parks of Bwindi and Mgahinga.
