RWANDAIR NAMES FEBRUARY 24TH AS DELIVERY DATE FOR THEIR FIRST BOMBARDIER Q400
(Posted 07th January 2014)
RwandAir has yesterday announced that they expect their next brand new aircraft, a Bombardier Q400NextGen turboprop in a dual class configuration, on Monday, February 24th.
When put into commercial service the new state of the art bird will replace the Bombardier Dash 8, which has been leased from Nairobi based ASL and served such destinations as Kamembe – RwandAir’s presently only domestic route after suspension of flights to Gisenyi – and some near regional routes like Bujumbura and Entebbe.
The new Bombardier Q 400NextGen will join two Bombardier jets of CRJ900NextGen make, which were also delivered brand new to the airline.
Also planned for the next few months are the launch of flights to Douala and later on to Abidjan, as RwandAir continues to expand its footprint into West Africa from where it offers convenient connections across Eastern Africa, to South Africa and to Dubai. Additional destinations in Southern Africa too are reportedly undergoing final evaluation, as are plans to turn options for more CRJ 900NextGen into firm orders.
According to a source close to the Rwanda Development Board’s tourism and conservation department, echoed incidentally by several private sector stakeholders, is RwandAir a key pillar in the ongoing growth of the tourism industry, which in 2013 has once again seen more arrivals and greater revenues coming into the Land of a Thousand Hills,by providing affordable fares and easy connections from East Africa and across the continent for visitors.
