RWANDAIR INTRODUCES THEIR FIRST EVER RWANDAN CRJ CAPTAIN

RwandAir just announced that they have promoted the first ever Rwandan to captain on their CRJ900NextGen aircraft, when Jean Paul Muvunyi received his fourth stripe yesterday in a ceremony at the Kigali International Airport after landing flight WB 401 from Nairobi to Kigali. Captain Muvunyi was handed his four bars signifying his new rank as captain by his fellow colleagues Captain Marco the CRJ Fleet Manager and RwandAir Chief Pilot Marcel Gabou Tirefort. He was then handed his new jacket by the Deputy CEO Jean Paul Nyirubutama which was followed by jubilations from the RwandAir staff who had gathered on the tarmac to witness the event.
Captain Muvunyi started his aviation training in Nairobi, Kenya at the CMC Flying School which was followed by further training at Fort Worth, Texas, United States and he then finally completed his training at Toronto Canada in Flight Safety Aviation. His wife Rose Muvunyi is also a member of the RwandAir family and is currently serving as the Product and Services Manager.
Repying to the various speeches given on the occasion Captain Muvunyi was quoted to have replied: ‘RwandAir has been so supportive through the trainings provided to me and I am very proud to be part of this growing family. We are succeeding in an Industry where many other nations have failed; I can only see a bright future for our airline’.
RwandAir, Rwanda’s national airline, has been growing at a fast pace in recent years and paid special attention to bringing local talent on board as cockpit crew and across the airline’s various department who form the backbone today for continued growth and expansion. In a month will RwandAir take delivery of yet another Bombardier aircraft, a Q400 turboprop in two class configuration, which will replace a leased Bombardier Dash8-200. Come March will the airline then launch their next destination, Douala in West Africa, further increasing its footprint on the other side of the continent. Happy Landings Captain Muvunyi!
