RwandAir remains on expansion course

RWANDAIR HANDS STRATEGIC PLAN TO PARENT MINISTRY

A new five year strategic plan was handed over to the Ministry of Infrastructure, under which Rwanda’s national airline RwandAir falls, earlier in the week.

It is understood that the airline has concretized plans to acquire wide body aircraft, this was earlier on confirmed to be the B787 Dreamliner, and then launch long haul flights to such destinations as China and European gateways, the respective airports still to be named.

The airline, chaired by none other than former Ethiopian Airlines CEO Girma Wake, who was brought on board by the Rwandan government, will also expand services across Africa and has named such destinations like Abidjan, Harare, Lusaka and Luanda as next on their wish list.

With presently 7 aircraft on the fleet, two leased B737-700NG, two owned B737-800NG, two owned Bombardier CRJ900NextGen’s and one Bombardier Q400, will new destinations likely require additional short and medium haul aircraft and industry observers are now closely watching for signs of relevant announcements.

It is also understood from usually well informed sources that the ongoing IOSA audit process by IATA may be shortly concluded and it is expected that the airline will pass and get certified.
