BALLOON SAFARIS ARE NOW AVAILABLE IN QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

(Posted 09th December 2014)

weya Safari Lodge in Queen Elizabeth National Park has announced that they partnered with Balloon Tours (U) to offer early morning balloon safaris over sections of the park.

The lodge said on their Facebook page yesterday: ‘Mweya Safari Lodge has teamed up with Balloon Tours Ltd. to make hot-air ballooning possible and affordable in Uganda!

We will be offering balloon safaris in in Queen Elizabeth National Park from Mweya Safaris Lodge. The take-off point is approximately 10 kms from the Lodge, near one of the salt lakes. Maximum capacity will be 16 people to begin with, and a later addition of a 24 people capacity balloon will be added.

Prices start from around $380 per person, and include a bush breakfast prepared by Mweya Safari Lodge and last approximately an hour. It’s time we get a new perspective of the incredible landscape that is Queen Elizabeth National Park’.

The balloon company was, when starting up in Uganda, mired in controversy over their full mouthed statements that they offer ‘East Africa’s finest hot air balloon safari’ while adding elsewhere ‘The first and only hot air balloon safari in Uganda or East African region’ which saw scorn poured over them as the first such commercial hot air balloon trips took place way back in the 1970’s out of Keekorok Safari Lodge in the Masai Mara, which no doubt remains the most exciting form of hot air ballooning in East Africa when above the great herds of wildebeest and zebras during the migration time. Since then have several balloon operations been operating in the Masai Mara, from several take off points as do for the past 20 odd years balloons take off from the heart of the Serengeti every morning (weather permitting), leaving the Ugandan balloon company as a clear late comer.

That notwithstanding, now that exaggeration has been established as a tool to get into the news, it is Uganda’s first such commercial operation and tourists coming to Queen Elizabeth National Park will be able to enjoy another attraction, at a rate which is around 100 US Dollars cheaper than similar flights in Kenya or Tanzania.

  1. Africa is a completely perceptible destination to experience a safari tour. Exploration of African wildlife, game tracking, and game drives with native tribal people is the most interesting part of anyone’s holiday. Which is truly unforgettable and leaves an impressive and indelible mark over the tourists’ mind. Thanks for sharing it..
