THE SANGANAI / HLANGANANI WEEK HAS STARTED IN ZIMBABWE AS ALL TOURISM EYES IN THE COUNTRY LOOK AT BULAWAYO

It is now only three days before hosted buyers and invited travel media representatives congregate in Bulawayo for this year’s edition of Sanganai.
Sanganai 15 brings together the entire cross section of the Zimbabwean tourism and hospitality industry. The annual tourism trade show will allow the local trade to meet hosted buyers and media to tell them the upsides of sending tourists to Zimbabwe which is of course a country with great many attractions including several leading UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Also available with be the Acting CEO of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Mr. Givemore Chidzidzi with his key staff and the newly appointed Acting Minister of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry, the Hon Mangaliso Ndhlovu and key members of his team.
A group of journalists, covering key markets for Zimbabwe, arrived over the weekend at Victoria Falls International Airport, where processing was fast and free of any problems. Health check and immigration turned out to be a walk in the proverbial park. India’s Kiran Mehta and yours truly from Uganda arrived on Ethiopian Airlines, Ann Lou Daniels flew in on Comair directly from Cape Town and Naved from Dubai who arrived via Harare on Emirates then connected to Vic Falls on Air Zimbabwe. Margret Dempsey joined the group from the UK.
For the first two days did the group face a very packed programme, of course visiting the mighty Victora Falls but also inspecting hotels and resorts, participating in the Vulture Experience and then joining the Lion Experience where four ‘brothers’, 14 years of age, now receive regular feeding after having been put out on pasture so to speak, no doubt prolonging their life.
Helicopters and microlights swooped overhead carrying tourist load after tourist load across the falls.
A morning breakfast cruise on the Zambezi was a market difference from the more regular cocktail or dinner cruises in the late afternoon as we had the river almost to ourselves, apart from just one more cruiser.
While on the river was a large number of birds seen, as were elephant, some fierce looking crocodiles, several hippo families and even some shy bush buck which ran for cover on Long Island.
Today is the group off for some early morning sunrise pictures over the falls before then leaving for Hwange National Park where game drives, talks with park staff and a visit to the painted dog foundation are lined up.
