#SANGANAI2018 BRINGS FOCUS TO TOURISM’S NEXT GENERATION

The Zimbabwe Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Prisca Mupfumira last week revealed that a national conference for Youth in Tourism will be organized by her ministry. The meeting will take place alongside this year’s Sanganai Hlanganani World Tourism Expo which is scheduled to take place in Zimbabwe’s second largest city Bulawayo, also known as the City of the Kings. Sanganai 2018 unfolds between the 06th and 08th of September and offers hosted buyers the opportunity to participate in familiarization tours to the main attractions the country has to offer, including the iconic Victoria Falls and the spectacular Eastern Highlands.
With a new national tourism sector strategy and a new tourism master plan in place will the youth’s place in the sector play a major role in order to create additional employment.
In 2017 did Zimbabwe enjoy a sudden rise in visitor interest, especially when the new President and his government had taken office, reaching 2.42 million arrivals through land borders and airports. This figure is projected to rise to 7 million by 2030 but in order to reach that number are major investments required, in marketing the destination, the country’s infrastructure, additional tourism hospitality facilities like hotels and safari lodges and camps, creating more places in tourism and hospitality training institutions while alongside more international flights to both Harare and Victoria Falls are needed.
