That simple moment depends on something powerful: a name belongs to a specific person. New research suggests elephants may be doing something surprisingly similar. A 2024 peer-reviewed study published in Nature Ecology & Evolution found evidence that wild African savanna elephants use individually specific vocal calls that function much like names. |
