SOPHISTICATED COMFORT IN THE UNTOUCHED WILDERNESS
Selous Serena Camp and Serena Mivumo River Lodge have undergone soft refurbishments to give you that “in the wild” experience that you deserve. Influenced by the natural surroundings of the Selous, a lush UNESCO Heritage Site, the refurbishments will elevate the look and feel of these pristine safari sojourns. The exterior designs complement the natural untouched environment whereas the interiors are a blend of African and contemporary designs, coupled up with modern amenities to further enhance guest experience. Selous Serena Camp have replaced the mattresses of 8 king size beds while the bar sofas and balcony chairs of all 12 rooms are in the process of being upholstered. All bathrooms at Serena Mivumo River Lodge now have new rugs whereas, room side sofas are being upholstered and bar sofas are being replaced so guests can be immersed in sophisticated comfort. The remaining part of the wooden walk away that had not been converted to stone paving is currently being worked on at Serena Mivumo River Lodge. These refurbishments are timely as the lodge is almost closing for the rainy season, but we look forward to hosting you for an exciting game viewing experience when we reopen in June.

BE THE CHANGE
March 21st and 22nd, marks International Day of Forests and World Water Day respectively. Serena Hotels remains sensitive towards improving and preserving the environment in which it operates. While the effects of climate change are dire with a 1/3 of these effects being driven by human activities, we strive to align our operations, programs and Initiatives to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out by the United Nations Development Programme. We continue to create awareness and drive change towards environmental preservation with some of our initiatives such as Tree Planting and Sustainable Water Management initiatives. Over the last 16 years, we have planted 415,000 trees per anum which translates to 6.64 million trees across East Africa, with a major portion being in Kenya. Studies show that a mature tree can consume 21.8 Kgs of carbon dioxide in a year and therefore, our tree planting initiative has sequestered approximately 2,537,608 tons of carbon dioxide over the last 16-years from the environment thus helping to alleviate the impact of climate change.

In pursuit of water management that is closely monitored at the properties, Serena has an extensive range of water saving measures in place. These include more efficient laundry and dishwashing formulations, phased investment in bio-digesters and phased installation of desalination plants at the Serena Lodges and Camps. Majority of the communities in which we operate lack access to clean drinking water and are are thus, exposed to a wide range of water-borne diseases. Over the last 10 years, Serena has provided surrounding communities at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge (Kenya) and Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge (Tanzania) with clean drinking water. Approximately 23,765 beneficiaries and 12,500 of their livestock per anum have benefited from this initiative.
We invite you to be part of our transformational initiatives to help save the environment.
Save Water. Plant a Tree. Be the change.
