CLEAN ENERGY FOR A BETTER FUTURE
|
|
Did you know that one of the leading cause of global disasters is climate change? Research shows that burning fossil fuels amongst other non-renewable sources of energy is one of the lead causes of climate change. Its effects can be dire and this is evident in what we have been seeing making headlines across the globe. There is a lot that can be done to reverse this and change how we do things. As an example, we as Serena Hotels are consistently working towards replacing the fossil based energy to renewable energy as well as have an effective energy management. Now, Serena Hotels has Solar Water Heating Systems in four properties and Solar Power Plants in five lodges. Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge, Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge, and more recently Mara Serena Safari Lodge have been fully solar powered off-grid since 2017, 2018, and 2019 respectively. Lake Elmenteita Serena Camp and Sweetwaters Serena Camp have been on a Grid-Tied Hybrid solar system since early 2018.
To date, the approximate cumulative environmental impact as a result of installing the solar power plants is as below:
- Total green energy produced: 2,771.4 MWh
- CO2 avoided: 1,949.44 tons
- Trees that would need to be planted to extract the CO2 within 10 years: 155,950 trees
Serena Hotels is continuously committed to implementing the Solar Power Plant model at other Serena Properties across East Africa. Guests visiting these properties can enjoy guided tours to the plants to learn more about what they can do to conserve energy.
