When it comes to learning the game of golf, nothing is quite like the Children’s Camp organized by the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa. The 3-day bi-annual golf and sports camp, starting 9th August to 11th August 2018, provides young and aspiring golfers a supportive and safe environment to improve their game while absorbing its traditions and acquiring unique techniques on East Africa’s finest and most challenging course at a tender age.

The theme for the month of August is “Swinging in the wild” promising an interesting golf experience where young children can look forward to acquire knowledge on dramatic nature and interesting wild adventures on top of the Golfing lessons.

While playing 18 holes, the surrounding environment definitely has a lot to enjoy. There are birds like Geese, Water Ducks, Eagles, Crested Cranes, Tree Swallow bird, King Fisher, and the Olive Sided fly catcher. These species are mostly found on Hole number 4, 8 and 9 fairways.

Fish can be viewed from the fresh waters of every lake shore on every hole. These are mainly Tilapia and Nile perch and can be found on the lakes of Hole 1-9. Smaller wildlife such as the Monitor lizards can be seen on Hole 5, 6, and 7 fairways and insects like Dragon flies can be found flying near green Hole 3 fairway, Hole 4 tee box, and the green of Hole 8. These are harmless and will run away once they sense someone getting close to their hiding place.

Swinging in the Wild” is aimed at the conscious appreciation and conservation awareness; we will celebrate combining interests of golf, nature, wildlife, and guide juniors into our theme for the August holiday camp and tournament.

To groom the best in the game, the resort’s Management has enlisted Mr. Emmanuel Kasio – a Kenyan national and certified golf coach from US Kids Golf and Golf4Kids Kenya. With years on the turf, Mr. Kasio fully understands the most effective ways to approach every child ensuring that each gets the most out of every training session. He strongly believes that it is his mission to ensure that through the sport of golf, children can learn and participate in community kids’ programs and become good citizens of the world.

The Resort is also strongly looking at building the game in the young ones through the golf academy which will be both a training and practicing facility. The academy will include a shot game area, a practicing banker and chipping green all designed to replicate various shot options. The academy is slated to start running by September.

The other activities include;- the rules and etiquette of golf, understanding the basics of the game that includes gripping the club, alignment, set up, short, mid and long games, golf skills challenge on the putting practice green, foot and snag golf at the driving range, putting competition at the putting green, trampoline, slides, swings and bouncy castle at the Kids playground, soccer at the pool gardens, swimming and pool water sport games with professional pool attendants and lastly, indoor games like ping pong, ludo, monopoly and snakes and ladders.

Lake Victoria Golf Resort and Spa hosts the tournaments for Children in April during the Easter Holidays and in August during the Summer Holidays mostly targeting International Schools that are in holiday at that time. However, we are also looking to involve other schools and we are planning to allocate 3 days that are conducive for both the International and Government schools.
