SERENA MANAGER ADOPTS ALBINO CHILD AFTER VISIT TO ORPHANAGE IN LAMADI

When last in the Serengeti, at Kirawira Serena in the Grumeti sector of the park, did time permit to visit the town of Lamadi, located on the shores of Lake Victoria.
My primary purpose at the time was to do a boat ride and watch birds and hear about the community initiative to offer such trips to tourists, or ‘Wagenis‘ as the locals call them in Kiswahili.
While there I also took the opportunity to visit a school Kirawira Serena has been supporting, in collaboration with guests staying at the camp, where several new classrooms, water tanks and other amenities have been put up as part of the camp’s Corporate Social Responsibility programmes.
It was there that I learned of an Albino Orphanage nearby, and notwithstanding the advanced time of day and the desire to get back into the park, I just had to see the ‘Mary Mother of God Perpetual Help Centre‘, run by sister Maria Helena.

What however is worth telling is that the Acting Manager of Kirawira at the time, Godwin Joshua, who in his regular assignment is the Assistant Manager of the Lake Duluti Serena in Usa River outside Arusha, made good of his pledge and promise to adopt one of the children we found at the orphanage, and herebelow is his story, just released by Serena Hotels in recognition of what Godwin has done.
