ANOTHER BUMPER YEAR FOR #SEYCHELLES TOURISM
(Posted 20th December 2017)
The Seychelles’ Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine Mr. Maurice Loustau-Lalanne announced at the end of year marketing meeting of the Seychelles Tourism Board, held at the Kempinski Resort in Baie Lazare, that according to figures provided by the Central Bank tourism revenues for the year, or at least until the end of November, had risen by an astonishing 20 percent, slightly ahead of the rise in arrival numbers. This signals an additional rise in spending by tourists by of four percent, given that the archipelago received 16 percent more visitors as of 10th of December, with three weeks in the year still to go. The Seychelles Bureau of Statistics confirmed that 326,523 visitors had entered the country as of 10th of December, 16 percent more compared to the same period last year.
Germany led the market with 48,218 arrivals, a 29 percent increase from last year. The CEO of Seychelles Tourism, Mrs. Sherin Francis, described Germany as one of their fastest growing markets with many tourists from there today seeing the Seychelles as the ultimate island destination.
The traditional market leader, France, in contrast saw a five percent reduction in arrivals thought the UAE, connected to the archipelago with four daily flights – two code shared services by Air Seychelles and Etihad and two services by Emirates – recorded an astonishing rise in arrivals by more than a third.
Full arrival statistics will be published here just as soon as they are available early in the new year, when the new media partnership between ATCNews.org and the Seychelles Tourism Board comes into full effect.
