Creating value for the country, visitors and the people of Seychelles was the focus of discussion between the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Dr. Patrick Herminie and the Deputy CEO and CEO Club Med EMEA, Indian Ocean, French West Indies Resort, Mr. Gino Andreetta, during a meeting held this morning at statehouse.
Mr Andreetta congratulated the President on his recent election and reaffirmed Club Med’s continued commitment to Seychelles. He noted that Club Med, a global hospitality company with 46 resorts and 40 offices worldwide across Asia, Africa, North and South America, maintains a strong global marketing presence and that its Seychelles property continues to perform well, recording occupancy levels of over 70 percent.
He further highlighted the close collaboration with Minister Bernstein and her team, in promoting as a premier destination, attracting clients from different corners of the world. Mr. Andreetta further noted that currently the Club Med Seychelles employs around 400 local staff including 20 Seychellois working in the different Club Med resort located globally. The resort also outsource food from the local community, service from the local community, hence promote the social responsibility in the country, which at the end give opportunities for the locals.
President Herminie discussed with the delegation key areas that could further enhance Seychelles’ appeal as a tourism destination. He emphasised the country’s visa-free access and explored how the Government can better support industry stakeholders to attract increased visitor numbers and strengthen the sector.
The delegates further discussed topics on connectivity, marketing and prices that can influence and support this industry.
Both delegates, agreed to work together, and help grow the tourism industry given that it is one of the main pillars of the economy in the country.
To note, Club Med Seychelles welcomed its first guest on March 29th 2021, following delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with 295 rooms located on Saint Anne Island.
