NEW BASA SET TO IMPROVE AIR CONNECTIVITY BETWEEN SEYCHELLES AND FRANCE

A new bilateral air services agreement, in short BASA, was signed last week in France between the Seychelles’s head of the Civil Aviation Authority Mr. Gilbert Faure and his counterpart from the French Civil Aviation Authority Mr. Michel Lamaille.
Mr. Faure was notably accompanied to France by Mr. Alan Renaud, Air Seychelles’ General Manager for Alliances, Aero Political and Public Affairs.
Air France has for some time been codesharing on Air Seychelles flights between Paris and Mahe and both airlines are now permitted up to seven weekly frequencies for passenger flights and unlimited cargo services.
The deal is part of a wider French engagement in the Indian Ocean to improve connectivity to and within the group of islands known as ‘Vanilla Islands‘ which include the French regions of Reunion and Mayotte and the independent islands of Mauritius, Madagascar and the Comoros besides Seychelles itself.
France is presently the Seychelles’ number two source market after Germany has again taken the lead during the first half of 2017 and ties between the two countries are warm and friendly as French is one of three national languages spoken in the Seychelles besides Creole and English.
