Seychelles and Reunion continue to strengthen tourism ties

SEYCHELLES’ TOURISM MINISTER HEADS DELEGATION TO REUNION

(Posted 07th April 2015)

Vanilla Island founder members Seychelles and Reunion will from later today discuss an even closer tourism cooperation when Minister Alain St. Ange will lead a high powered delegation to the French Indian Ocean island where he is expected to also hold bilateral talks on government level

Earlier in the year did the Seychelles’ Tourism Board post a PR and marketing executive on Reunion to help promote inter island holidays and help provide information and facts to the local outbound travel industry. With flights between Reunion and the Seychelles operated twice a week by Air Austral are visits now made easy as passengers no longer have to change planes in Mauritius but can fly nonstop.

Included in the delegation are the Chief Executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board Sherin Naiken, the Director of Seychelles Tourism Office in Europe Bernadette Willemin and the Director of Marketing at Seychelles Tourism Board Rose-Marie Hoareau. They all left Mahe on the Air Austral flight in the morning to present a new marketing strategy for Reunion Island. The new French Ambassador to Seychelles, H.E. Lionel Majeste-Larrouy will also be accompanying Minister St. Ange and his delegation to Reunion Island.

The delegation flew to Reunion Island with a number of Seychelles’ DMC’s and hotels establishments interested in Reunion as a source market ? Les Lauriers Eco Hotel and Restaurant, AVANI Seychelles Barbarons Resort and Spa, Creole Travel Services, 7 Degrees South, Mason’s Travel, Le Duc de Praslin, Coral Strand Smart Choice Hotel, L’Hirondelle Self Catering Guest House, Ocean Jewels Resort, Patatran Village and ten more hotels represented by Pure Seychelles Hotels. The delegation will launch its roadshow dubbed ‘Escapade Seychelles’ in the towns of Saint Pierre and Saint Denis and host a series of workshops for Reunion’s top tour operators and travel agents.

Five Reunion based tour operators expressed keen interest in Seychelles as a source market, Muta Voyage, Yes we can, Marine Voyages, Air Voyages and Mille Tour and their staff will receive destination and product training by Mrs Willemin and have the opportunity to interact with Seychelles tour operators and the hotels’ representatives.

The Seychelles’ Minister of Tourism and Culture Alain St. Ange will at the end of the visit then host a typically Creole evening for the Reunion tourism trade.

Later this month will Reunion then once again appear as co-host alongside the main host country Seychelles when the annual Carnival Festival is staged for the 5th time already, one of the Vanilla Island’s major events on the annual festival calendar. For that event have yet more delegations from around the world, including Sweden, signaled their participation from where a Sami cultural group will fly to Mahe to showcase their culture and perform in front of the global media which will once again assemble on the island.

  1. It’s quite a good idea. Since both are amazing destination. I have been to Reunion and stayed at the 5 star hotel Akoya. However, I’ve not been to Seychelles yet. For now, I can tell that Reunion was great. Staff members at the hotel were great.

    1. I share the same views. Both destinations have their own unique essence. Reunion is famous because of its volcano while Seychelles has very beautiful white sandy beaches. Both have very nice hotels ranging from 2 star to 5 star luxurious ones. One of the 5 star hotel mentioned above in Reunion is Akoya, which is a real gem of the Island (been there twice). Whilst Constance Lémuria is one of the 5 star hotel in Seychelles. I strongly believe that some strategies can be set up among the two destinations whereby nice and profitable packages can be proposed.
