In a surprise move has sitting Seychelles President Danny Faure announced that his running mate for the October elections will not be incumbent VP office bearer Vincent Meriton but current Finance Minister Maurice Loustau-Lalanne.
The decision was reached in party meeting but requires affirmation from the party’s congress in a few weeks.
Vincent Meriton served under former President James Alix Michel in the capacity as ‘Designated Minister‘, elsewhere referred to as Prime Minister. When President Michel abruptly resigned and his Vice President Danny Faure took over as the country’s president, was Vincent Meriton chosen to become the Vice President.
Maurice Loustau-Lalanne looks back at a long career as a civil servant, at one time being the CEO of Air Seychelles and later the Chairman of the Board while also at one stage serving as CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board.
Maurice also held the portfolio of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine following in the footsteps of Alain St. Ange, himself now a presidential candidate for the upcoming elections.
ATCNews will continue to monitor events in the Seychelles leading up to the end October elections and will file periodic updates as the race moves towards the finishing line.
