Seychelles Tourism sources have confirmed that the first of 50 cruise ships expected this season will dock at Victoria Harbour on the 20th of October.
The Costa Mediterranea has a capacity to carry almost 2.700 passengers and while the exact number of those disembarking on Mahe next Sunday are presently unknown will the first ship of the season no doubt inject money into the Seychelles economy and drive up arrival numbers.
The handling arrangements introduced last year about access to the port will remain in place, giving DMC’s, tour operators and taxi operators staged access to the ship to avoid congestion.
Port calls on the Seychelles regularly go along with cruises across the Indian Ocean’s other Vanilla Islands including port calls on the African mainland, where notably the Mombasa cruise terminal is nearing completion and is due to be officially opened in early January, when President Kenyatta will be at the coast for his traditional Christmas and New Year vacation.
