LOUIS D’OFFAY – REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND
(Posted 18th July 2017)
News from the Seychelles came as a shock when it was learned that Louis D’Offay, former Chairperson of the Seychelles Hospitality and Tourism Association and owner of L’Archipel Hotel on the island of Praslin, had passed away earlier today. Louis was just 73 years old at the time of his passing.
This correspondent got to know Louis many years ago and regularly interacted with him when he was at SHTA, always getting insights into the workings of the private sector and its challenges.
Together with former Tourism Minister Alain St. Ange were the two for a long time a key bridge for news about the islands even though published from the African mainland.
Contact continued after Louis had retired from the chair of SHTA to concentrate on his private businesses as the relationship had taken firm roots.
He is survived by five children, Jean-Paul, Simon, Jean-Marc, Lucas and Caroline.
I had hoped to see Louis again in October for the annual Festival Kreol, this year combined with the Seychelles Carnival, but the clock ran down too fast to catch up one last time.
Rest in peace my friend, you are greatly missed as is your advice and insight into Seychellois affairs and all things tourism across the archipelago.

It hurts so much when a friend walks away. Even more when it’s a best friend. But what hurts the most… is when you have no idea why they left. Rest Peacefully Grand Master!!!
