FLIGHT BANS WILL NOT CAUSE THE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ON MAHE TO CLOSE

Although passenger flights into the Seychelles have now dwindled to next to none – only Seychellois are presently allowed back into the country – and are expected to drop to zero during the course of the week, will the international airport remain open according to SCAA CEO Gary Albert.
The airport could receive some additional flights but only for the purpose of evacuating foreign nationals, and of course cargo flights to keep the islands supplied with much needed goods.
As an island nation deep in the Indian Ocean is cargo transported by air crucial for the supply chain, including quintessential restocking of medication but also immediately needed spare parts and other items.
According to SCAA and other statistics received were 921,704 passengers processed last year with more than 11 flights a day, besides the dozens of scheduled and chartered flights across the islands.
National airline Air Seychelles, which last week took delivery of a brand new Airbus A320Neo, has halted all international flights and presently only flies to Praslin – twice a day in the morning and evening – compared to over two dozen flights before #COVID19 hit.
