Seychelles is getting ready to celebrate its marine heritage from December 02nd to 09th this year in a new festival, the Seychelles Ocean Festival, which succeeds SUBIOS with a broader mandate.
Seychelles will be hosting the one-week festival in early December to celebrate its rich marine heritage.
The official launch of the event taking place at The Wharf Hotel and Marina on December 02nd, against a backdrop of the sea and Eden Island.
A photographic exhibition of Seychelles and the sea – displaying rare and old photographs of our islands’ marine scene, will also be staged during the festival.
The Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine Alain St.Ange and the Chief Executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board Mrs. Sherin Francis will be addressing those present at the launch ceremony.
During the ceremony, the Seychelles Tourism Board will also launch the new Seychelles Ocean Festival website.
A marine-themed gala dinner will be hosted on December 03rd at the Eden Bleu Hotel on Eden Island. The guest of honour for the festival, the Chief Executive of PATA, short for the Pacific Asia Travel Association Mr. Mario Hardy will be giving a presentation during the gala event.
The new Seychelles Ocean Festival aims at building on the strong foundation laid down by SUBIOS over the past decades.
Keeping up with the SUBIOS tradition, the Seychelles Ocean Festival will encourage tourism establishments to join in the week-long festival by hosting marine-themed events of their own.
The department of blue economy will be organising a forum on sustainable fisheries to coincide with the festival while at the same time that there will be a week of specially-rebated diving holidays available through local hotels and dive centres.
A family fun day will be held at Anse Royale on December 04th. Activities for the day will include the festival’s triathlon; boats rides, intro dives, snorkeling and canoeing; games and live music show featuring the ‘Horizons’; marine-themed food stalls; underwater treasure hunt and many more.
