#Seychelles kicks off year long celebration of 250 years of settlements

250 YEARS OF SETTLEMENTS – IT IS GOING TO BE A YEAR TO REMEMBER IN THE SEYCHELLES

(Posted 19th September 2019)

Earlier this week did President Danny Foure launch the year long countdown towards the date when the Seychelles islands were first settled, some 249 years ago as of now in the year 1770.
ATCNews had already in June reported about preparations going into high gear to devise a year long programme of activities, culminating in 12 months time when the Seychelles can look back at two and a half centuries of uninterrupted settlements.
Back then, 15 French, 5 Indians and 7 Africans laid the foundation of what has today become an independent nation of about 95.000 inhabitants, united by the Creole language and the truest rainbow nation anywhere in the world.
All events planned will be public, without anyone having to pay any entrance fees at any of the venues, making it as inclusive as possible for the Seychellois to participate in it and commemorate their history.
Tourists too can participate in any of the public events when they take place as a commemorative date like this is not going to come calling again for a further 250 years.
