The Chairman of the Seychelles Taxi Owners and operators Jemmie Bonne said today that the Taxi Committee Members who had been meeting with the Ministerial Committee under the Chairmanship of Minister Charlette and the working committee at the Department of Land Transport is satisfied with the progress made and are now waiting for the Government on the way forward.

"We have been able to get it acceptable that the Taxis are a business and a Seychellois owned industry in itself. We came into these series of meetings a couple of months ago apprehensive of the respect we would get. We tabled a long list of demands and can today confirm to our members and our 400 plus industry colleagues that we are sure that our grievances and demands have been heard. We proposed many points as a way forward to ensure our livelihood is assured and to operate under rules that are fair for all taxi operators which have all been well received by the working committee" said Mr Bonne, the Chairman of the Taxi Association.

The Association is now expecting to sit on the Land Transport and Licensing Board dealing with Taxi matters and they have said that points raised by Praslin and La Digue Members have also been included in recommendations now going to the Cabinet of Ministers.

"We are thankful for all the Taxi Association Members from Mahe, Praslin and La Digue who made time to sit at weekly meeting with the Departments of Transport, Licensing, Tourism and Finance and we also say thank you to Mr. Alain St.Ange of the Seychelles Labor Union for being with us at all the meetings" Mr. Bonne ended in saying.
