10 PERCENT MORE ARRIVALS IN 2019 SO FAR PROJECT TREND FOR THE YEAR

A rise in visitor numbers in during the first months of this year to 110.009 has set a new record for the archipelago. With more flights, but also more cruise ship arrivals – during a recent visit two large cruise ships including the Queen Victoria of Cunard were seen in port – have tourist numbers continued to rise, supporting the Seychelles number one economic activitiy which tourism has become over the years.

Mr. David Germain, Director for Africa and the Americas at the Seychelles Tourism Board, based in Johannesburg, during a meeting last week at World Travel Market Africa in Cape Town, confirmed the trend and attributed it to smart marketing of the islands as not just a high end market destination but also to added marketing efforts targeted for instance at Africa where the affordability of the islands is being showcased.
It is not know at this stage if new airlines will commence services into the Seychelles or if airlines already serving Mahe will increase their number of flights but air connectivity remains the centre piece of marketing the islands which received more than 361.000 visitors last year, a new arrival record and one in a long line established since 2009.
