PRASLIN TO BENEFIT FROM MASSIVE TREE PLANTING PROJECT

A major tree planting initiative is going underway on the second largest island of the Seychelles archipelago, Praslin, where in the final stage some half a million trees will have been planted.
The project will start off with a first batch of 100.000 trees, to be planted by staff laid off from hotels and other tourism businesses while the industry is only starting to get back into gear again.
On 01st of August was the international airport on Mahe opened again for scheduled passenger flights and as of now are Ethiopian Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways and Air Seychelles operating again, with Air Austral from Reunion and Edelweiss from Switzerland following suit in September.
The tree planting project is financed by the Seychelles Employee Transition Scheme and will be implemented by the Terrestrial Restoration Action Society of Seychelles, aiming to restore tree cover at parts of Praslin where forests have been depleted and soil erosion taken hold.
Those participating in the tree planting come from a variety of hotels such as Constance Lemuria, Berjaya Praslin Beach, Raffles and Acajou, among others and work is due to start on the 24th of August.
