South Sudan Supreme Airlines operations suspended by presidential order

SOUTH SUDAN’S PRESIDENT ORDERS SOUTH SUPREME AIRLINE TO HALT OPERATIONS

(Posted 08th March 2021)

President Salva Kiir has, following the fatal crash of a South Sudan Supreme Airlines last week, suspended operations of the airline by official order.
The airline, but more broadly speaking the aviation sector in South Sudan, have been under the spotlight in recent years over a series of air accidents, often happening with aged and very aged aircraft, prompting allegations over maintenance compliance and crew training compliance by a weak regulatory body.

IATA more recently again shared their concerns with member airlines but given the lack of enforcement and follow up, including sanctions against errant operators by the South Sudan civil aviation regulators.
