Steve Fitzgerald – Safari Njema
It is with great sadness that we report the death of Steve Fitzgerald. A member of Atta for many years, Steve founded Halcyon Hotels in South Africa and went on to run Conservation Corporation Africa (CCAfrica) which became &Beyond as CEO until 2009. Steve and his wife Nicky then spent years working on their Angama Mara project, opening in 2015 a spectacular lodge in Kenya’s Rift Valley overlooking the Mara triangle, where much of the iconic Out of Africa was filmed.

Steve was one of the pillars of African tourism and the projects that he worked on across Africa helped lay the foundations of our industry as we know it today. Angama’s website quotes Karen Blixen: “I am better at hello than goodbye”. So rather than good bye let’s say “Safari Njema , Steve” Our thoughts and prayers go to Nicky and her family.
