Stray elephant kills schoolboy in Kanungu, fueling calls for more protection

A 15-year-old boy was killed on Friday morning by a stray elephant that had wandered out of Queen Elizabeth National Park into a village in Uganda’s southwestern Kanungu District, the second such fatality this year. The victim, Clinton Birungi, a pupil at Kyentija Primary School, was attacked after the elephant destroyed his family’s grass-thatched house in Kameme Cell, Kibimbiri Parish, according to local police.
