Swissport Tanzania shows sustained growth as aviation industry expands

SWISSPORT REVENUES RISE BY 19 PERCENT ON THE BACK OF INCREASED FLIGHTS

(Posted 02nd May 2014)

Tanzania’s leading airport handling company, Swissport, has just released their figures for last year, showing a rise in pretax profits by 17 percent. The company made nearly 11.4 billion Tanzania Shillings in profits, largely as a result of handling more flights from existing clients and otherwise successfully vying for new business too. The arrival of new airlines and the expansion of flight scheduled by others translated into profits by 17 percent though revenues grew by 19 percent with passenger numbers handled grew by 13 percent and cargo handling growing by just over 9 percent, according to figures given. The addition of Songwe / Mbeya and Mtwara to the list of airports where Swissport is present, has also had a significant effect on the bottom line as in particular these two destinations have seen flights grow by leaps and bounds following the renovation of airport facilities.

While there are other companies licensed to handle aircraft and provide groundhandling services, none can match Swissport in terms of size, equipment and revenues.

The news came out when the company held its annual general meeting in midweek prior to the Labour Day holiday. Watch this space for breaking and regular aviation news from across the region.
