(Posted 03rd March 2016)

The launch of daily flights to Sydney by Qatar Airways will no doubt be a game changer for travelers from East Africa to Australia, giving added options also to those from ‘Down Under‘ coming as tourists to Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania.
Connections from Sydney into Entebbe, Kigali, Nairobi, Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar are conveniently scheduled and will no doubt help to promote East Africa as a trade and tourism region.
In turn will the Sydney service, the third destination in Australia for the airline after Perth and Melbourne and soon to be followed by Adelaide, open up Australia, not just from Africa but also from Europe and North America.
Qatar Airways is using a Boeing B777-300ER for the nonstop service in a two class configuration of Business and Economy, both cabins offering the widest seats and most space in the market.
Said Mr. Abu Baker, Group CEO of Qatar Airways, on the occasion of the flight launch: ‘Touching down here in Sydney for the first time today is an important milestone for Qatar Airways and for the people of Australia. We are delighted to be able to offer passengers flying from Sydney the opportunity to connect to more than 150 places on our global network via our state-of-the-art airport in Doha. We look forward to taking the people of Sydney to the places they want to go on our modern aircraft, and giving them a taste of the Arabian hospitality and comfort that earned us the aviation industry’s most prestigious title of Skytrax Airline of the Year in 2015. I would like to personally thank Sydney Airport and city authorities for welcoming us today and we look forward to strengthening our relationship with them and the people of Australia in the coming years as we all go places together‘.

Qatar Airways now operates a fleet of over 170 state of the art aircraft and flies to over 150 destinations world wide. The airline has already signalled a major new route development programme to be announced at the upcoming ITB Tourism Fair in Berlin / Germany next week and all eyes will no doubt be on Mr. Akbar Al Baker when he takes to the podium.
