NTW Sells Indigenous Nigerian Travel and Tourism Opportunities

MICE Focus: Countdown To Nigeria Travel Week (NTW) 2017

Nigeria Travel Week (NTW), an exciting annual travel and tourism event is billed to hold from the 20th of November to the 25th of November 2017. Nigeria Travel Week (NTW) would be bringing buyers, consumers, travel technologies, travel and tourism service providers and the media together to network, review and discuss the development of tourism in Nigeria, over the course of the week.

Nigeria Travel Week (NTW) aims to promote travel and tourism in Nigeria by making Nigerians see the need to visit Nigerian tourist destinations and also patronise indigenous travel agencies in Nigeria. The target is to increase travel and tourism within Nigeria by 20% while also creating an estimated 2 million direct and indirect jobs over the next 5 years.

The strategy is to publicly promote the benefits of travelling within Nigeria while also promoting Nigeria as a rich travel and tourism destination. The message to the international community would be aimed at showcasing Nigeria as a travel and tourism destination endowed with unique attractions and tourism investment opportunities.

Nigeria Travel Week (NTW) would also help in data collation of travellers and tourism statistics in Nigeria and create awareness of the benefits of domestic and continental travel.
It has become increasingly important to change the ‘Nigerian’ perception that travel and tourism is luxury or you need to have a lot of money to travel. Also, exposing the average Nigerian to the major tourist attractions in Nigeria while revealing the rich Nigerian Ecotourism, Cultural Travel and Tourism Destinations potentials in the process.

As expected, the Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) is also heavily involved in the project, with the Director General, Mr Folorunso Folarin-Coker expressing his delight at the private sector driven project, which aligns with his corporation’s goals.

The activities of the week include Familiarization Tours, Travel Roundtable, Tourism Cup (Golf), Village Square, Travel Hangout and Nigeria Tourism Awards.
