KAMPALA MTN MARATHON THIS YEAR SET FOR 23RD OF NOVEMBER

(Posted 16th October 2014)

The 11th edition of Uganda’s single most popular sporting event, the MTN Kampala Marathon, will this year be run on Sunday 23rd of November. Tens of thousands of participants are once again expected to paint the city in yellow with their event t-shorts of course promoting the corporate colours of main sponsor MTN.

Like in past years will the money raised largely go towards providing Ugandans with clean and safe drinking water, hence the slogan ‘Run for Water’.

Runners include professionals and semiprofessionals, amateurs and thousands of others who train for an entire year to run for their company, their club or their preferred charity, aiming to raise additional funding over and above the effort of the organizers.

Sections of Kampala’s main highways and key roads, along the route, will be closed for regular traffic from about 06.00 hrs in the morning until the last runners have crossed the finishing line at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

The registration fee of UShs 20.000, equivalent of about 8 US Dollars per person will in turn give the participants the trademark yellow jerseys which are part of a kit given to everyone who signs up. Those using MTN Mobile Money will in fact earn a rebate of 10 percent, having to part with only 18.000 UShs.

Registration will open soon and added information about the event, the route and where and how to register will be published here just as soon as this year’s email contact and relevant website have been released by the company.
