In a world where sustainable development is now at the forefront of concerns, the Vanilla Islands are positioning themselves as true leaders in this movement. For several years, these Indian Ocean islands have skillfully combined the maintenance of a vital economic activity, crucial for the longevity of local businesses and jobs, with a reduced ecological footprint.

At the Seatrade in Hamburg, the Vanilla Islands’ responsible approach stood out remarkably. By focusing on modest-sized ships with a low environmental impact, the group has set the standard for responsible tourism. This close collaboration with the main tourist players in the region, notably the local tourist office and the port of Mauritius, as well as receptive agents from Reunion and Mauritius, has led to a fruitful dialogue, aligning the aspirations of the Vanilla Islands with the expectations of the shipping companies. The feedback is already positive: the upcoming season promises to be full of opportunities.

Mr. Arvind Bundhun, Director of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, proudly discusses recent progress: “The inauguration of the new cruise terminal this year bears witness to Mauritius’s unwavering commitment to offering world-class services, meeting the requirements of the companies and ensuring an unforgettable experience for passengers.”

Pascal Viroleau, Director of the Vanilla Islands, continues this positive trajectory: “Our beautiful region attracts maritime companies that share our values. These companies recognize the importance of sustainable development and see the invaluable richness of our cultural and tourist heritage.”

This mutually beneficial partnership between the environment, tourism, and the economy of the Vanilla Islands is living proof that sustainable development and economic growth can, and should, go hand in hand.
